Launched in Q4 2022, the monthly Next Wave webinar provides a rich stream of GCV editorial-led discussions around emerging investment sectors and Institute-led conversations about CVC operational best practices.

Here are a few nuggets from 2023 Institute-led webinars….

"Strong internal networks help corporate investment teams get better results"

In January, the Institute led a panel on "wiring the corporation – creating new pathways for disruptive innovation". It brought together leaders from BP Ventures and Capital One Ventures to showcase unique approaches for tapping into the power of broader parent networks. Doing so though is no easy task yet if you can build and formalize an internal network of champions, address parent-portfolio engagement barriers with tools and resources, and learn to tell the story of success and impact, as well as several other key factors, then you can be well on your way.

"Is it a crisis or an opportunity? Navigating down rounds and managing portfolios through market uncertainty"

For our webinar in March, our Institute experts led a discussion on how best to manage your corporate investment portfolio in a downturn. Intel Capital, Echo Health Ventures, and Fenwick & West shared advice on how to prep a CVC investment team for a tough funding climate. Among others, topics included: the importance of re-educating portfolio companies on the cost of capital and of resilience over expensive growth; the benefit of accepting a lower valuation to avoid complicated investment terms and messy cap tables; and the value of investment/portfolio management training and role-playing for CVC investment teams.
